Our nation needs investors who need an enabling environment - Chief Dr Kenny Martins

BAT Communication ventures, publishers of integrity reporters newspaper had it's fourth annual public lecture on Security Challenge and Implication on National Development during the week.


The event which took place at Lagos sheraton hotels, Ikeja had in attendance, top dignitaries from different sectors of the nigerian economy among them was the former governor of Lagos state and now Honourable Minister of Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola who was ably represented by Engineer J.O Popoola; Lagos State governor Mr Jide Sanwoolu represented by Dayo Isreal and Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, Barrister Obasa represented by Dr Oyiola Omisore. 


Others were the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land Chief Gani Adams who was also represented by Barrister Yinka Oguntimileyin, the Guest Speaker of the day was the celebrated politician and businessman, Chief  Kenny Martins; Bashorun Chief Dele Momodu represented by Mr Micheal effiong and Kenny Saint Brown.


After the welcome address by the convener Mr Wale Ogundiran, the guest speaker Chief Dr Kenny Martins in his speech, said that, "on the issue of security, investors are afraid of instability there is no nation that can develop with only it's resources. 


A discussant at the event, Dr Kunle Olawunmi, a combat military intelligence officer who has worked with seven heads of states, said that security is when you have freedom from fear or threat. That there would be no growth in any economy if there is no security. He added that we should find a solution, have equal right, human right, "we need women in high places in the country where economic status is equal." 


He agreed that the country has a problem of leadership, one that makes the political class responsible for the welfare and security of the people that as long as we steal money we will still have problems.


A security expert Mrs Tanwa Ashiru said, "we lack vision, we neglect things going around us such as the Zamfara farmers/herders conflict, people died nobody did anything about it. Now we have found ourselves in a situation whereby we now need excessive force. It is self inflicted. We need a strong judicial system. We need long term vision. We need to take up dialogue, we should stop neglecting the youths, start implemention, they need their voices heard and need to take action."


Dr Iyiola Omisore harped on bad governance, "we use thugs every four years after using them, turn them to bandits who go into the forest.  We must find solution to check mate excesses and the issue of state police needs a permanent solution. We must ensure every state has its police in Nigeria.


The unveiling of the special edition of integrity reporters tabloid newspaper was next. Mr Sunday Oditan a crime reporter and other dignitaries present, unveiled the edition, while awards were presented to Mr Raji Fashola , Lagos state governor Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu and others.
