FELA DUROTOYE JOINS OTHERS TO CONDEMN ATTACK ON NiGERIANS ABROAD

Former Presidential candidate for Alliance for New NIgeria Fela Durotoye has joined numerous Nigerians to condemn the current xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa.

In a statement he released some hours ago, Durotoye said, he saw the horrific video of another xenophobic attack on a Nigerian in South Africa.

"I believe that these attacks have gone on for far too long and it is time for the world to raise our voices against Xenophobia & xenophobic attacks worldwide particularly in South Africa.
I condemn in the strongest terms xenophobic attacks against any Nigerian or any other nationality in South Africa and across the world.

"We must all speak up against xenophobic attacks which, unaddressed, can escalate quickly beyond a few people who perpetuate these horrific acts and which may lead to reprisal & retaliatory attacks across Africa & beyond the shores of our continent."

He called on the governments of Nigeria and South Africa to jointly speak up against Xenophobia and to tell us all what concrete steps they are taking to secure the lives of Nigerians, visiting or resident in South Africa.

"Moreover, since action speaks louder than words, I urge the government of South Africa to take quick action in investigating these horrific acts of xenophobic hatred & to quickly bring the perpetrators to justice publicly.
South Africa government must also educate & enlighten the young people of South Africa who may be too young to know the role that Nigeria and other nations played in ending the despicable apartheid rule as well as the collective price we all paid in securing the freedom that all South Africans enjoy today.

Durotoye however noted that, "not all South Africans are xenophobic murderers and we must resist the strong urge to label all South Africans by the horrendous acts committed by a few of them.

"At this very sensitive time, I urge us all to follow in the footsteps of the great African Statesman, Nelson Mandela, who taught us all to show love in the face of hatred. Hatred will never be killed by more hatred. Two wrongs will never make a right," he added.
