It was a handover ceremony before the May 29, 2023 handover date to the next administration. In football, we call it a final before the final.
Oruk Anam is Martha's Vineyard. She strut into her backyard like an all conquering General returning from the battlefield with diadems of victory. It became a rousing carnival-style grand reception for the Pastor Umo Eno/Akon Eyakenyi Campaign Organisation.
That's the statement made by the deafening, standing ovation from the sea of heads when Oruk Anam's foremost daughter, First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel was making her grand entry into the arena, at the expansive Council Secretariat field, Ikot Ibritam on Monday, February 13, 2023.
Pastor Umo Eno, Governorship Candidate of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party acknowledged this. He aptly captured the event as a Handover Ceremony. The First Lady was in her hometown to introduce and hand over her husband's would-be successor to her people.
To Oruk Anam, he outlined his plan for them if elected Governor:
*To equip and upgrade the Faculty of Agriculture in the Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus, making it the centre to train people for the envisioned Agricultural revolution spelt out in his ARISE Agenda.
*Provision of a good hostel for the students who will become the manpower base for the agricultural revolution
*Facilitate commercial agriculture by providing equipment for lease to enable mechanised commercial agriculture.
*Skill gap coverage for youths with vocational training in areas such as industrial welding, mechanics, fashion design, etc
*Replacement of the School which was converted to the Navy Secondary School with a Model Technical School in Oruk Anam.
*Continuity of Roads, hospitals, markets, schools, projects, appointments for Oruk Anam people
Worthy of note, was the solemn commitment to oblige his Political Mother(Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel), by the proverbial doing of whatever she petitions for her kinsmen from the incoming Governor.
"Whatever she tells me to do for Oruk Anam, I will do it." That's the solemn vow of Pastor Umo Eno to the good people of Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
Eka Unwana Akwa Ibom, Her Excellency, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel put up an incredible performance and show of 'force' with the unprecedented crowd that came to honour their daughter, as though it was her valedictorian speech they came to hear.
Pastor Umo Eno is blessed and marching on. The diminishing returns of the noisy opposition is fading out with an impending crushing defeat.
