Foursquare Church Marks 70 Years, Declares New Dawn of Jubilee

After seven decades of ministry in Nigeria, the Foursquare Gospel Church has declared the beginning of a “new dawn,” ushering in what its leaders describe as a divinely ordained season of jubilee and renewal.

Speaking at the grand finale of the church’s 70th Annual Convention held at the Foursquare Camp in Ajebo, Ogun State, the General Overseer, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, said the milestone marks a spiritual turning point in the church’s history. Drawing from Jeremiah 29:10, he emphasized that God Himself had set the agenda for the next phase of the church’s journey.

“This is not just an anniversary; it is a prophetic season of new beginnings,” Rev. Aboyeji said. “For seventy years, God has been faithful to Foursquare in Nigeria, and now He is leading us into a future filled with greater impact.”

The event featured the dedication of an ultramodern hospital, a major upgrade from the church’s former community health center. According to Aboyeji, the facility will expand access to affordable medical care for residents of nearby rural communities.

“Accessing healthcare without insurance is difficult in Nigeria. Many in these areas can’t afford basic coverage. Our small health center treated over 2,500 people last year, and this new hospital will serve even more,” he explained.

The President of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, Rev. Randy Remington, who attended from the United States, described the Nigerian church as “a living example of holistic ministry.”

“The gospel we preach cares for the whole person — body, soul, and spirit,” Rev. Remington said. “We have a lot to learn from the Nigerian church — its stamina, joy, and resilience are inspiring.”

The one-week convention, themed “A New Dawn,” drew thousands of worshippers and featured ministrations from renowned preachers including Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, and Bishop Wale Oke.

Rev. Mrs. Olabisi Aboyeji, wife of the General Overseer, described the week-long event as a “mountain of divine encounters,” filled with testimonies of healing and spiritual renewal.

“On this mountain, the Lord has been feeding us with manna from heaven,” she said. “We are full of joy for what He has done in the lives of His people.”

The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Rev. Hakeem Ogunniran, revealed that organizing the 70th anniversary took more than 14 months of preparation.

Adding a touch of royalty to the occasion, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, attended the convention and received an award from Rev. Aboyeji for his palace’s longstanding support to the Foursquare movement. Posthumous awards were also presented to early pioneers and missionaries who helped establish the church in Nigeria in 1955.

With the dedication of the new Foursquare Medical Center and renewed spiritual commitments from its leadership, the church looks ahead to what it calls a fresh era of revival and community impact.
