Foremost hospitality place in Africa, La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort is uniquely built on special traditions that has lasted over time. The African themed resort located at Ibeju lekki, Lagos, has built over the years a tradition of honouring great world leaders who have excelled in different spheres of human endeavors.
These identified heroes of mankind are furthermore honoured with a dedication of particular trees to their names. And these trees are those that serenade the long, curvy entrance into the resort, straight down to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
Their photos are stuck to the trees with a short profile of each person's area of achievement and subject area of relevance.
Today I am going to reveal five (5) of the world achievers, whose photos adorn the beautiful entrance into La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort.
1. Dr. Olakunle Akinboboye's tree leads the row of trees, at the beginning of the road leading into the resort. Could that be deliberate? For those who don't know it, Dr. Olakunle Akinboboye is the brother of Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye, the founder of the first African themed resort in the world, La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort.
Dr. Olakunle Akinboboye, is a Nigerian-American, the First African to chair the United States Cardiovascular Disease Board.
A nuclear cardiologist, he became an associate professor of clinical medicine at the Well Medical College of Cornell University, New York. He is the medical director of Laurelton Heart Specialists P.C. and Strong Health Medical Group P.C., Rosedale, Queens. He specializes in cardiac imaging, clinical hypertension, coronary artery disease and diabetes. He became the 14th national president of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) which was established in 1974 to focus on the adverse impact of cardiovascular disease on African American
He has been listed among the top doctors in New York by prominent American medical publications amongst other honors.
2. Yvonne Chaka Chaka's tree is at the first junction into the Beach Resort. Her tree is located at the luxury estate homes known as Anago Way. She is a South African, the First African Woman to be named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Yvonne Chaka Chaka is one of South Africa’s most successful singers of popular music. She was also one of the first South Africans to achieve international fame. She is also referred to as, “Princess of Africa” because, she performs all over Africa.
3. Federick McKinley (Jones) is an American innovator and entrepreneur
First African to develop the mobile refrigeration unit which was used to transport perishable goods across the country. His tree is also located the luxury holiday estate homes, overlooking the road into the resort.
As an engineer, Federick won the National Medal of Technology, and is an inductee of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Jones co-founded Thermo King.
4. Martin Luther King's tree is at the border between Anago Way and Igbo La Campagne. Behind Martin Luther King's tree, is a pathway that leads to Igbo La Campagne, the resort's Games Reserve.
So who was Martin Luther King Jnr? He was an African-American Religions and Political Leader, that changed the course of life for all African-American. A 16th-century monk and theologian, he was one of the most significant figures in Christian history. His beliefs helped birth the Reformation. At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jnr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
5. Chinamanda Ngozi Adichie's tree is conspicuously located at the sprawling entrance to the beach area itself. You can't miss it! That's because her smiling beautiful face holds your attention and even speaks poetry to you from her photo on the tree (laugh)!
Chinamanda Ngozi Adichie is a popular Nigerian, one of the first contemporary African author to reach global bestseller status and influence feminists. Her most famous works include Purple Hibiscus (2003), Half of a Yellow Sun (2006), and Americanah (2013). She is widely recognised as a central figure in postcolonial feminist literature.
This tradition of honouring world leaders is proudly promoted and supported by Motherland Beckons initiatives, founded by Tourism icon, Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye, also founder of La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort.
