When Sen. Soji Akanbi honoured Late Awolowo, renovates 64 year old school

For many who witnessed the re-opening of the newly re-modelled and renovated Methodist Basic School at Agbeni, Ibadan, Oyo state, it was an emotional moment as happiness, relieve and tears of joy flowed over the humanitarian gesture, undertaken by Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, in honour of the Late celebrated Sage and Politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Sixty four years ago, Chief Obafemi Awolowo had constructed this particular Basic School in his church, the Methodist Cathedral, Agbeni, Ibadan. The edifice then and now, remains one of the biggest Pre-secondary schools in entire West Africa.

However, over the years, it became dilapidated, an eyesore, dangerously inhabitable and the environment became dangerous for the pupils and other dwellers in the area.

Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, who is also the Okanlomo of Ibadan, took it upon himself, as a core progressive and an Awoist, to restore Awo's legacy by remodelling and reconstructing the Methodist Basic School, which now accommodates over 600 wards.

At the event, many were able to say, "yes indeed, Awolowo's legacy lives on!"

To witness the brief re-opening ceremony, were members of the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo's family, led by Late Chief (Mrs) Oyediran (nee Awolowo), Rev Omotosho of Methodist church cathedral, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi and his wife, Mrs Zhikrah Aduke Afolake Akanbi, and several other dignitaries.
