Hope rises for bereaved Info officer as son receives school fees package



It was with total shock and amazement that a bereaved State Government Information Officer, Mrs. Mayen Atakpa received the news that the school fees of one of her three children will be taken up, following the demise of their father and her husband, late Larry Atakpa.


Late Larry Atakpa, 58 years, from Mbiatok Itam in Itu LGA, passed on few weeks ago, after battling from an accident he sustained 3 years ago, leaving behind a bereaved young wife, an Information Officer serving in Uyo LGA, Mrs. Mayen Atakpa and three undergraduate children, IfiokAbasi, Andikan and Ubong Abasi, all studying in the University of Uyo.


With the eldest, IfiokAbasi, being 20 years, a 200 level, Political Science student, the second, Andikan, 18, studying Computer Science and the 3rd, UbongAbasi, 17, studying Pharmacy, it could only be imagined what a relief it was for Mayen, when the announcement of picking up the school fees of one the children was made.
Moreso, when she heard that support would be extended to her during the burial arrangements for her late husband.

For years, nothing close to this, ever happened to bereaved Information Officers or staff of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, so the bereaved wife of late Larry Atakpa, Mayen, was overwhelmed by this show of love and support from her Boss, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong.


"I am so humbled by this great honour done to me and my entire family with this unexpected visit by the Hon. Commissioner and the management staff of the Ministry", Mayen Atakpa said.

"For the Commissioner to come all the way to Mbiatok to visit a small person like me, I say God bless you, Sir. And for the school fees you have promised to pick up for one of my children, I thank you Sir and may God replenish it for you, Hon. Commissioner", she concluded.

Moved by the report that, one of his Information Officers has lost her husband to the cold hands of dead, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, had spontaneously led the Permanent Secretary, Mr Inyang Jameson and Directors in the Ministry on a condolence visit to the bereaved family of the departed Larry Atakpa.

After exchanging pleasantries with the children of the departed, IfiokAbasi, Andikan and UbongAbasi, who he noticed are all blessed with natural thick long black hair, the state Information helmsman commissereted with the family and prayed that, they be consoled of the irreparable loss by the God of all comfort.

Comrade Ini Ememobong then promised to take on a personal Capacity a year school fees of one of the bereaved children adding that, the Ministry of Information and Strategy will also lend support to the family during the burial of the late Larry Atakpa.

Highlight of the event was condolence prayers for the bereaved family by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Inyang Jameson.
