The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee has given Akwa Ibom State Government thumbs up on the Airport facilities, Coconut Refinery, 21 storey Dakkada building and other project sites visited so far in the State.
The commendation came on Monday, November 23, 2020, during the tour of the state led by the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, as part of the Committee's tour of projects in the South/South geo-political zone of the country.
The tour was necessitated by the need to carry out evaluation and access the economic benefits of some state government projects in various states of the Federation.
Mr. Okon, the South South team lead disclosed that the tour was to monitor the implementation of
ongoing projects and to ascertain the pace of work and its impact on the country's economy.

In continuation of their tour of ongoing projects in the State, the National Economic Council Implementation Committee also visited the International Terminal Building and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facility (MRO), at the Victor Attah International Airport. The team also stopped by the Green House at the entrance to the Airport to catch a glimpse of the vegetable garden.
While addressing the team, the team lead seized the opportunity to sue for partnership with the Federal Government while appealing for support to states to assist in the delivery of developmental projects.

MRO, Mr. Okon said the project was a national asset as there was no MRO facility in the whole of West Africa. He described Governor
Udom Emmanuel as people oriented and commended him for embarking on projects capable of stimulating the economic sector of the state.
The team led by the South South leader of the Committee and Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Mr. Akan Okon was received by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, who took them round the facilities.
Addressing the delegation, Mr. Okon said the smart building was of immense economic value to the State which would provide employment opportunities and attract multinational companies.
The ten (10)State Government green houses located along the Airport road were also visited. Mr. Emmanuel Akpan, Director of Agricuture in the Ministry of Agriculture while briefing the delegation said the ten green houses were 1 hectare each with tomatoes, cucumber and green paper cultivated. Onions he said was also in the offing
He said the Committee comprising six teams, were simultaneously going round the six geo-political zones of the country to achieve the mandate given to them by NEC.
On his part, the secretary of the South-South team Mr. Daniel Ikara expressed delight over the provision made by the Akwa Ibom State Government for the intelligent building put in place to housed the International Oil Companies (IOC's).
The Committee at end of the tour paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, and was received by the Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo.
On the entourage were, Mrs Vivian Amadi, Arc. Augustine Bassey,and Mr. Lawali Musa, from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Abuja.
