International Day Celebration of Girl-Child: Info Boss Says AKSG is Gender-Friendly



Akwa Ibom State Government is gender-friendly, committed to the advancement and development of the girl-child and women in general.



The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong stated this earlier today, during the celebration of the 2020 International Day of the Girl-child, organised by the Women in Total Girl Development Academy at the Wit-Girl centre, 2, Uboh Way, Uyo.

Comrade Ini Ememobong said, the friendly disposition of Governor Udom Emmanuel towards the girl-child and indeed women is demonstrated in the numerous Programmes undertaken for the benefit of the women as well as the policies put in place for the development of the girl child.


Represented at the occasion by the Directors of Public Relations, Mrs. Grace Akpan and Strategy, Mr. Joseph Etem, the State Information helmsman enumerated some of the Girl child-friendly Policies of government to include: the free education for every Akwa Ibom child irrespective of gender from the primary to the senior secondary school level, the free health care for children irrespective of sex from 0 - 5 years as well as the child rights law.


Comrade Ememobong reiterated that, the number of women in the state Executive Council coupled with the number of female Local Government Chairmen as well as women in other political offices of government are clear testimony of Governor Emmanuel's poised at fighting the cause of women in the state.

The State Information Boss who handled the presentation of the maiden Magazine of the Wit-Girl titled "Wise Girlhood", congratulated the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Wit-Child, Prof Comfort Ekpo on the successful launch of the magazine and the hosting of the 2020 International Day of the Girl-child.

With the theme, "My Voice, Our Equal Future", the 2020 celebration witnessed a review of the "Wise Girlhood" magazine by Prof Eno Urua of the University of Uyo, presentation of Goodwill messages by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Chairman of the occasion, Dr Ini Adiakpan, the Chairman of Nsit Atai LGA, Lady Emem Ibanga and the SSA to the Governor on Entrepreneurial development, Chief Janet Amba.

Highlights of the celebration included the unveiling of the Magazine by dignitaries at the occasion, presentation of playlet by girls of the Academy and inspection of exhibition stand mounted by the Wit- Girls academy.
