Akwa Ibom State Government has assured the Police authority and other security agencies of a conducive operational environment that would guarantee security of lives and property of residents in the state.
This was the hallmark of discusion on Tuesday , 1st
September, 2020, when the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, played host
to the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Amiengheme Andrew, who was on a courtesy
visit at Government House, Uyo on his assumption of duty in the state.
Governor Emmanuel who welcomed the Commissioner of Police
to the state advised him to carryout his duties without interference, assuring
that he would not solicit police assistance to perpetuate illegality as it is
not in his character to indulge in such act.
"I want to first of all welcome you to the state
and let me register sincerely on behalf of my cabinet members and citizens of
this tate our utmost appreciation to members of your team for the good works in
combating crimes in the state.
"...let me say this that as you are here, even
when you stay here for a long time, I will not ask you to do anything illegal
for me. I have never asked for injustice against mankind. It's against my life
principles" he emphasized.
The Governor assured the Police Boss of his
administration's support in tackling criminality in the state , stressing that
such support would be premised on good relationship that will foster peace and
harmony in the state.
He spoke of the peaceful ambience of the state,
informing the police boss that criminality is at it lowest ebb and wished him a
successful stay in the state.
Governor Emmanuel who stressed the need for team work,
charged the new Commissioner of police to collaborate with other security
agencies with a view to addressing pockets of clashes in some parts of the
state.
He conveyed the state's appreciation to the out gone
Commissioner of police, CP Imohini Edgal and thanked him for his meritorious
services to the state.
Earlier, Mr. Amiengheme Andrew, said that his posting
to the Akwa Ibom is to ensure effective policing of the state and solicited
support from all and sundry to enable him achieve his set targets, stressing
that security is everybody's concern .
He said , "my primary aim as I'm being posted to
this Command is to make sure that citizens of Akwa Ibom State sleep well. There
will be zero tolerance to all forms of criminality no matter how small or big.
It will not be tolerated", he warned.
CP Andrew hails from Ekpoma in Edo State, and up until
his recent deployment to Akwa Ibom, has served in the force for 32 years.
