Comrade Ememobong Institutes N.4m Post Covid-19 resumption financial support for UNIUYO

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information Comrade Ini Ememobong early today, Wednesday 19th August, 2020, instituted N.4m post COVID-19 resumption financial support for the University of Uyo.

The scheme which is to cushion the harsh economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on students of the university will be enjoyed by students from two different departments of the university, namely: the Department of Communication Arts and that of History and International Studies.

Under the arrangement, a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira each will be received by the best male and female Students in each of the levels in the Department during every session while  Post Graduate works will also be supported to enable beneficiaries withstand the  Post-Covid-19 resumption trauma. 


Announcing this at the University during an Advocacy visit, the State Information helmsman said, the Ministry of Information and Strategy is through the development engendering partnership with the University and in particular the two departments for a mutually beneficial relationship between the State Government, the Ministry and the institution.

He said, the Ministry and the two departments will collaborate in such areas like: intership, regular staff trainings and workshops as well as sponsorship of relevant research works which could serve as a guide to policy formulation and implementation by the State Government.

At the Department of History & International Studies, Comrade Ememobong advocated for a documentation of the history of Akwa Ibom State using the Local Government Areas as a pivot adding that, the Department should undertake the profiling of the intellectual resources which abound in the State for posterity.


Such compendium, the Commissioner said, will be a reservoir for Government to fall back on whenever the need arises and pledged to sponsor purposeful research works for the development and progress of Akwa Ibom State.

In his remarks, the Head of Department, History & International Studies, Dr Nkereuwem Edemekong said the partnership with the department signposts development as, according to him, history is the bedrock of development.

Dr Edemekong  who described Comrade Ememobong as an ambassador of the department, expressed the hope that with his antecedent, Comrade Ini Ememobong will surely live above boards in the discharge of his duties and later joined other lectures to pray for the Commissioner.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
