Akwa Ibom
State Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Sir Charles Udoh
has urged International Oil Companies, IOCs operating in Akwa Ibom to cooperate
with the government by relocating their operational base to the state.
Sir Charles
Udoh who disclosed that the major objective of Governor Udom Emmanuel's
administration is to create jobs and wealth for people, urged IOCs in the state
to contribute to government's efforts towards job and wealth creation by
setting up their operational base in the state to open up the needed
opportunities.
“This
government has been focusing on the creation of jobs through the private sector
arrangements witnessed in the multiplicity of industries dotting the landscape
of the state.
“I therefore
join hands with the youths of Mbo local government area to celebrate this gift
from Oriental Energy Resources", Sir Udoh said.
The
Commissioner appreciated the Managing Director of Oriental Energy Resources
Ignatius Ifelayo for leading a good cause of keeping to the company's corporate
social responsibility through people orientated projects in the state
including: the training and equipping of people in different skills, building
of classrooms and laboratories, construction of 100 units housing estate in
Ewang and scholarship for students among others.
While
expressing government's appreciation for the initiative by Oriental Energy
Resources' Udoh stated that government would be more delighted if it is carried
along from the beginning of any project for an all encompassing process.
He commended
the company for being a good corporate social citizen, and enjoined other oil
companies to emulate Oriental Energy Resources.
Present at
the event were: the Local Government Chairman of Mbo, Mr. Asukwo Eyo, the
paramount Ruler of Mbo, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Ogwong Okon Asukwo and
the representative of the Commissioner for Ministry of Labour and Manpower
Planning among others.
