LASEMA Response Team and other stakeholders has put out the Ajao Estate market fire that broke out sometime around 01:00a.m earlier today.
The fire which left four shops completely razed, according to residents reportedly started in one of the lock-up-shops, in a small shopping mall located just before the Ajao Estate main market, before it extended into the main market.
The fire outbreak which root cause could not yet be ascertained, recorded no deaths, nor injuries which was mainly attributed to the time the incident occurred though it was said to have led to the loss of properties and goods worth several billions of naira being razed by the inferno.
According to some shop owners, the fire was attributed to an electrical power surge suspected to have sparked off the fire that eventually razed parts of the market in the wee hours of today, before it was brought under control through combined efforts of the LASEMA Fire Unit, State and Federal Fire Services, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
In the battle to salvage the situation and quickly curtail the fire outbreak at Ajao Estate market, the Federal Fire Service deployed one fire truck, the Lagos State Fire Service also deployed one fire truck, while LASEMA fire Unit deployed two Fire trucks, all in an effort to curtail and dampen the fire to ensure it does not spread and cause further damage.
Commenting on the incident, the DG/CEO LASEMA Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu advised Lagosians to engage in safe electrical practices which included switching off all electrical outlets before closure of business for the day, as well practicing of safe and proper fuel storage.
Accordingly, the DG LASEMA states that Preliminary Report on Fire Incident at Ajao Estate Market Opposite CPM Church On 1st of July, 2020, has it that, "The agency received a distress call at 1:59am via emergency help line 767/112 regarding a fire outbreak at the aforementioned location and immediately deployed its team to the incident scene.
"Upon arrival at the scene , it was discovered that the aforementioned Market located inward Oshodi by Welcome bustop was completely engulfed in flames.
'The Lagos State Fire Service, LASEMA fire team and the Federal fire service have worked to battle the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
"Investigation revealed that the fire started in one of the lockup shops, just before the main Ajao estate market before it extended to the main market due to an alleged electrical power surge.
"No life was lost and no injuries sustained, but a total of four (4) shops were completely destroyed and properties and goods worth several billions of naira have been razed by the inferno.
"The Fire was finally put under control but the area has been cordoned off for safety reasons".
