In Borno state, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has put in place measures to fight increasing fake hand sanitizers now rampant in the state.
In a parley with journalists, the State Coordinator of the Agency Mr. Nasiru Mato, yesterday said that his agency has discovered unregistered hand sanitizers on sale in Maiduguri metropolis and other parts of the state.

According to him, “the Borno state office of the Agency has in recent past embarked on massive surveillance in Maiduguri with a view to mopping up all unregistered hand sanitizers to safeguard public health”.

He also disclosed that his agency "has carried out sensitization campaigns at various patent medicine shops, super markets, corner shops as well as markets within Maiduguri metropolis”.

NAFDAC, he said, will bring the full weight of the law on defaulters. He furthermore, warned consumers not to patronize un-registered hand sanitizer as them may contain methanol which is harmful to the body when inhaled or absorbed through the body.
