The atmosphere at the Oniru palace was peaceful and
calm when yesterday newsmen from both print and electronic media called on the
palace to clarify rumour suggesting a protest at the palace. While security was
in place to ward off whatever disturbance may arise, the palace itself was
serene and busy only with the usual paraphernalia of a palace, as normal palace
activities were on-going.
The newly installed Oniru Of Iruland, HRM, Oba
AbdulWasiu Gbolahan Lawal we learnt was on the throne attending to his
traditional duties and was restricted to meeting only some particular people.
Pressed by newsmen for a statement, Otunba Niyi Babade,
the media aide to HRM, Oba AbdulWasiu Gbolahan Lawal who spoke on his behalf, said
that it is malicious for anyone to spread false rumour that there is a protest
or disturbance at the Oniru palace or in Iruland.
“As you
can see for yourself that the palace is peaceful. Oba Gbolahan Lawal is still
observing some traditional rites, but he is receiving visitors and I can assure
you that Iruland has been enjoying peace since Oba Lawal got to the throne of
his forefathers.”
- Niyi Babade attributed the false rumour to “some enemies of progress. The Oba is at peace with all the princes within and outside the palace and there was no reason for anyone to attack the palace at this material time. His Royal Majesty is a lover of peace who has been doing all within his powers to calm all frayed nerves over his emergence as the Oba of Iru land. There is no doubt that there are issues to be sorted out, the Oba has been sorting them out without causing any form of rancour. So, we want to implore members of the public to disregard any unfounded rumour and join hands with the monarch to move Iruland forward at this critical time,” Babade said.
Niyi Babade
who is an ex CNN top correspondent and a media consultant, assured that the
people of Iruland were in for a better period under Oba Gbolahan Lawal.
He
urged all the residents of the area to co-operate with the Oba, who he said is
blessed with a wealth of experience as a former security officer and a former
commissioner in the state.
He
also disclosed that the monarch has been briefed fully about the scuffle that
ensued recently which led to the assault of a prince and he has already taken
positive actions which has been generally commended nationwide and by the indigenes
of Iruland in Diaspora.
“Be
rest assured that he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring proper investigation
and action,” he added.
