...calls for protection of the Children from Societal dangers
The national Speaker, Nigerian students Parliament (NSP); Rt.Hon. Mubarak Aliyu Rimi has joined the global community to celebrate Nigeria children in commemoration of the 2020 Children's Day celebration.
According to him, even though the open celebration is highly challenged as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic, he maintained that it is an opportunity to appreciate Nigeria Children who are evidence for the existence and continuity of the Society.
He also opined that around the world, children are showing us their strength and leadership advocating for a more sustainable world for all.
This he said should be encouraged because building on advances and re-commit to putting children first, for every child, every right, is the best way to go .
Rt. Hon. Mubarak noted that making education accessible to Nigeria Children will go a long way in producing virile children who will take over the society tomorrow.
"You know, garbage in, garbage out... meaning that whatever impact or training we are able to implant in our children today is what they will become tomorrow and this is very important," he added.
On this note, he advocated for provision of Free Education at all levels in Nigeria schools as obtainable in Imo state, urging other States in Nigeria to emulate the policy because according to him, quality education is the best way to give proper direction to Nigerian Children who will one day be adults tomorrow.
World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated in Nigeria on May, 27 each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide and improving children's welfare.
"November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child."
Since 1990, World Children's Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children's rights.
Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making World Children's Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations.
World Children's Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children.
This year is extra special, marking the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. A time to celebrate and a time to demand action for child rights.
