A toast to Bashorun Dele Momodu, a great philanthropist @ 60

In the early years of this millennium, Ovation International magazine was located inside one of the posh suites of Excellence Hotel at Ogba, Lagos.

I got there one morning and Bashorun Dele Momodu told me "let's go downstairs." I thought as usual, he wanted me to join him for breakfast. But he led me to the car park, to the side of his newly imported and newly delivered Mercedes Benz 560, 2 doors, American spec, open roof. He said this is yours, go and do the papers in your name! The new car was in addition to my official car, which was another version of same car! Very young though I was, I became a Lagos big boy overnight. The toast at many events.

That is vintage Bashorun Dele Momodu's generosity which has extended to many individuals, homes, societies, groups, campuses and other institutions.

I have learnt humility from him. I have learnt that hardwork pays. I have learnt from him to keep relationships and it has worked for me. He has never lost a friend. They may go, but they always come back.

His ability to give has no end. He is deep and that's because he used to fly into the country, every now and then to sit at his mother's feet for wise counsel. He dotted on his mother, he dotes on his family and the bond between him and his lovely wife Mrs. Bolaji Momodu is admirable. Indeed, behind  any great, successful man, is a beautiful, caring, committed wife.

At 60, you have been blessed but you have also worked for it. May God give you the grace, the life and more energy to enjoy His blessings.

Cheers...
