DR TITILAYO FOWOKAN, DANGOTE'S GROUP TAX HEAD, SET TO CELEBBRATE 50TH BIRTHDAY IN STYLE TOMORROW

Hurray! It's her birthday today 19th July! For hardworking Dr. Titilayo Fowokan, tomorrow is party day! Yes, the beautiful corporate no-nonsense lady, will close all the books and go dancing as she celebrates her golden jubilee on earth, which comes only once in a lifetime. Dr Titilayo is 50 today and no stopping the music tomorrow as she will dance and dance and dance.

Quite a lot of people have already made up their minds that they will dance with her tomorrow. They have already told her that all work and no play makes Jane a dull girl. So the birthday lady has also bought her party shoes in readiness for the party tomorrow which is already set for  Ikeja, Lagos. 


Dr. (Mrs.) Titilayo Fowokan in deed has a good reason to celebrate. She is presently the Group Head, Strategic Tax and Compliance, Dangote Industries Limited and is in charge of the tax affairs of the Group both within and outside Nigeria. She is also involved in organizing trainings, facilitating training sessions and delivering papers on selected topics on taxation, accounting, fraud examination and controls. She started her higher education with National Certificate of Education (N.C.E) from Ogun State College of Education where she studied Mathematics and Physics and graduated in 1988.

She went to Ogun State University where she graduated in 1992 with a Second Class Upper Division in B.Ed. (Mathematics) and was the best graduating student in the department of Curriculum Studies and Instructional Technology (CSIT). She has B.Sc. And M.Sc. In Accounting from Saint Monica University Cameroun (SMOUNC), Masters in International Business Law (LLM) from University of Cumbria, Carlisle, United Kingdom and Ph.D. in Accounting with specialization in Taxation from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos, British West Indies.

 
Her career blossomed as a Professional Accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1994 (Now PwC) where she was employed as an Audit Assistant and later rose to the level of a Tax Manager before leaving the firm in 2005. While in PwC, she was instrumental to the development of International Assignment Services (IAS) focused on Expatriate tax management and also responsible for the retention of fresh graduates directly recruited into Tax and Corporate Advisory Services Unit of the firm. She later joined the firm of Akintola Williams Deloitte in 2006 to develop Tax Advisory Services and Global Employer Services Units of the firm. She worked for three and half years in the Tax Unit of Deloitte before leaving the firm at the level of a Senior Tax Manager in December 2009 to join Oando Plc in January 2010 as the Group Tax Manager. After working for 6 years in Oando Plc, she moved to Dangote Industries Limited in April 2016 as the Head of the Dangote Group’s Tax Department.

Titilayo is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Practitioner with over 23 years of experience in audit, accounting and taxation services. She has significant experience in preparation of accounts for small and medium sized companies, Audit and Business assurance services, Tax compliance and consulting services for both corporate entities and individuals. Her expertise in tax advisory covers inbound and outbound investment advisory for multinational enterprises, and expatriates’ tax management. Her industry experience covers in particular Financial Services, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing and Service industries. She also has experience in investigation of financial statement and taxation related fraud practices as well as forensic audit.

She is a seasoned paper presenter and has delivered over 200 papers on Taxation, Accounting, Finance and Audit related topics at different fora. As a lover of the upcoming generation and role model for teenagers and young adults, she has delivered papers on career counselling and empowerment for teens and youth at various seminars. She is a mentor to the University of Lagos (Unilag) Tax Club, University of Ilorin Tax Club and currently is the Chairman of the Students Affairs and Tertiary Education Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). 

Titilayo is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). She is a General Practitioner (GP) of the South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT), a Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and a Certified Internal Control Auditor (CICA) of the Institute for Internal Controls (TheIIC).

She is a Council member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the 1st Vice Chairperson of the Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT - Lagos Chapter), the 2nd Vice President of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (Lagos Chapter), a Board member of the International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals (Nigeria Chapter), 1st Vice President, Association of Forensic Accounting Researchers (AFAR), and Vice President (Membership) of the Professional Women Network (PWN), Lagos.
