Ever been to Prest Jazz Club in highbrow Lekki off Admiralty way, down to the waterfront? It’s a secret shared only among those who know the good things of life and know how to enjoy them!

Prest Jazz Club is a choice fun spot for people with a fine taste for good music and quality night life.

So when the club decided to throw its doors open to host Gloria Ibru who was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title, Yeye Amuludun of Kweme Kingdom along with the monarch of Kweme Kingdom, Oba Sejide James, we had no choice but to throw our equipment into a car and off to Lekki we went.

It turned out to be a breezy, rainy night and the Chairman of the club, Chief Anthony Tosan Prest had lined out beautiful talented singers to liven up the night and to host the newest Chief in town, Chief Gloria Ibru and her Kabiyesi who came all the way from his kingdom in Badagry.

The invitation had it that the Kabiyesi of Kweme Kingdom would be the Father of The Day. But many doubted if he would be able to make an appearance especially with the rain that poured freely on the city of Lagos that particular Thursday night.

Despite the rain though, top executives from different spheres of life were already seated that night enjoying the outpour of fine, pure Jazz music at the waterfront in Lekki.

Yes, Prest Jazz Club is partially on the Lagoon. You sit listening to Jazz music while watching the waves hit the walls of the building! And on a rainy night like this, it was magical, sitting there, enjoying the music, the live performances and watching the waves rushing at you, then splashing on the glass walls of the cosy lounge: A beauty to behold especially at night as the waves bubble and sparkle like silver when it splashes!

So, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Sejiro James, Aholu Henwa of Kweme Kingdom defied the rain that night, arriving at Prest Jazz Club at the peak of the entertainment with his entourage, to the great excitement of the Ibru clan and other guests who joyfully received him. Even the monarch was excited to see such excitement from top executives on a rainy night in choice Prest Jazz Club.

Finger foods, champagne, spirit, wine, cigar was available for those who cared for them and the jazzy notes and songs from different music genres performed by the duo of multitalented Dede Mabiakwu and Chief Gloria Ibru, spiced up the night.

This was a night when Dede Mabiakwu sang his heart out! But he wasn’t alone. Biodun Batik, Ego Ogbaro and South African based Kunle Ayo were those billed for the night entertainment.

But the poetic performance of ‘lawyer by day, poet by night’ Kingsley Jesuorobo also spiced up the night. Kingsley dazed the Jazz loving audience with his poems. One titled ‘Edo’ really made everyone’s day! Canadian based Kingsley Jesuorobo really had a nice time out that night.

In her brief speech, Chief Gloria Ibru said she was overwhelmed with the outpour of love that she saw that night, with people defying the heavy downpour, to honour her and her Monarch His Royal Majesty Oba Sejiro James. And His Royal Majesty also had nice words to say. According to him, he had always admired Chief Gloria Ibru and her music talent. He said he had been her fan over the years and it is just natural that Chief Gloria Ibru should be honoured with the Yeye Amuludun of Kweme Kingdom, because it had been long overdue!
