Yesterday, was an epoch making day in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, as the state government His Excellency Governor UDOM Emmanuel, set the ball rolling for the grand operational take off of the state's indigenous airline, the Ibom Air.
It is a great commendation to the state government especially at a time that the federal government is still struggling to have a national carrier.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, affirmed the place of the new IBOM AIR in history, when he stated that, "the airline is first commercial airline ever to be owned and operated by a state government anywhere in the country and indeed Africa.
According to him, the airline is starting commercial operations having fulfilled all regulatory conditions and requirements by the regulatory authorities in the nation’s aviation sector.
In the words of Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Chairman, Ibom Air Management Board, "Today is not a speech making day, but I want to say that never again shall we spend three days travelling for a One hour meeting in Lagos or Abuja. We can easily go for a meeting and come back same day with Ibom Air."
