The collision between the convoy of the Executive
Governor of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu along Akure-Ibadan expressway,
some days ago, has continued to elicit great concern among Nigerian citizens
with some notable leaders in the society, condemning the affront of such
bandits to attack a governor’s convoy or entourage: With some leaders even
calling for state police immediately in the country.
But throwing more light into the matter for better
clarifications, an aide to the governor, told us that, the bandits were not
exactly waiting at the spot on the road to attack the governor’s convoy, “they
were not aware that it was the governor’s convoy until the security personnel in
the governor’s convoy opened fire on them,” he said, but confirms that, “the
road has become a dreaded road to travel.”
After a series of abductions on this particular road, the
Akure-Ibadan expressway has thus remained a notorious road to travel in recent
times and this was even confirmed by the Governor after the incident with the
bandits. “We, as governor, will do something about the issue,” said Governor
Akeredolu.
The incident according to some Yoruba leaders, is a
wake-up call to the governors to act.
