AHEAD OF 9TH ASSEMBLY ELECTION, COURT SAYS OPEN BALLOT IS IT

The much expected 9th National Assembly election may be dramatic as conflicting views on how it should be held as raised up its ugly head.
Some of the senators had come up with the idea of a secret ballot of which APC senators had faulted arguing that the former leadership of the senate smuggled in the use of secret ballot.

As it is now, an Abuja High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the clerk of the National Assembly, the Clerk of the Senate, the Sergeant At Arms to the Senate and others from relying or enforcing the Senate standing orders 2015 (as amended) in the conduct of election of Presiding officers of the Senate of the 9th Assembly, pending the determination of a suit.

The court ordered the Senate to apply the Standing Orders 2011 (as amended) by the Senate on the 24th May, 2011 which prescribed the use of open ballot rather than secret ballot mode in the election of presiding officers of the Senate.
