Presidential Debate: NEDG, BON Choose 5 Parties As Other Parties Cry Foul

The Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) working with the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) have chosen five parties to participate in the much expected presidential debate which is scheduled to take place at Abuja on the 14th of December, 2018.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the NEDG, Mr Eddi Emesiri, the parties are Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP).

While the Vice Presidential debate will hold from 7 pm at the congress hall of the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Friday, December 14, 2018, the presidential debate will hold on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

It has been agreed that the debates will be transmitted live on all BON member stations and its affiliates as well as live streaming on all social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the announcement has not gone down well with some other parties that did not find their names included for the debate.

An aide to one of the presidential candidates who have not been invited called us to ask "why a major 3rd force candidate,  is not included in the presidential debate?" Another aide to another presidential candidate who we spoke to, expressed the mind of his principal. "This is truly uncalled. Why should our party be sidelined that already shows partiality and preference for some parties over others. We are going to address a press conference this morning over this matter."

Two other parties that we reached out to, were still trying to find a stand over the matter.

However, all efforts to reach the Nigerian Election Debate Group to ascertain if the debates will be in batches, and to make more clarifications, proved abortive.
