FUEL SCARCITY: Info Minister, Lai Mohammed defends Dr Ibe Kachikwu

By Paul Ukpabio

Information and Culture Minister Alhaji Lai Mohammed has defended Dr Ibe Kachikwu the Minister of State for Petroleum, with regards to his remark and blunder made about the persistent fuel crisis.

While speaking to newsmen at a cultural event at Eko Hotel in Lagos, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated that, Kachikwu did not mean that there will continue to be a scarcity of fuel or that the matter was beyond his control. What he actually meant was that, as long as our refineries are not working, the same challenges will remain. But that is not to say that we will be suffering for the next two months. That certainly is not the case. The Petroleum Minister was simply explaining what we will be achieving in the next two months.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed went on to explain that, "when there is fuel scarcity like there is right now, people are naturally discomforted. Presently, the federal government is doing so much to reduce the pains of the people. For example before now, NNPC was importing less than 50% but as of today, NNPC is more or less importing the entire 100% needs for the country."

The Information and Culture Minister encouraged Nigerians to be patient with this government. "I am not just saying that Nigerians should be patient, but also to be very hopeful. We appreciate their pains, we are working round the clock to make sure that they are not disappointed. But we know that all that will soon become a bad dream of the past.
