Palm Sunday celebrated as Pope Francis calls for unity

Christians all over the world trooped out yesterday, to celebrate Palm Sunday. Dramatic as it was in some places, the day featured the re-creation of the historic donkey ride by Jesus Christ into Jerusalem by some churches in Lagos.

Palm branches were freely on display in many churches around Lagos. And it was not out of place to see processions of worshippers as one drove around the city.

However, while
for some Christians the season has been associated with fasting (lent) for some other Christian denominations, fasting has just begun, perhaps just for the rest of the week, which will take them to the actual celebration of the resurrection of Christ at Easter Sunday!

On January 17, Pope Francis while visiting Rome synagogue, a Jewish place of worship, emphasised unity among Christians and people of other faith.
