I embarked on my journey into the vibrant realm of journalism at the renowned Times Journalism Institute, a prestigious establishment intricately linked to the Daily Times of Nigeria 🇳🇬. Long before I set foot into the bustling hallways of this esteemed institution, I found myself enchanted by the pages of Ovation International Magazine. I eagerly devoured both the West Africa and International editions, and I had a particular fondness for the exclusive Ovation America edition, which offered a unique glimpse into the lives of global celebrities.
Upon graduating from the Times Journalism Institute, we were inspired to engage in a year-long professional placement, a crucial phase designed to sharpen our journalistic skills and solidify our understanding of the media landscape. During my research among the numerous media organisations throughout Nigeria, I discovered Ovation—a quintessential African celebrity magazine known for its mesmerizing storytelling and exceptional coverage of cultural icons and events.
Ovation was more than just a magazine; it was akin to a vibrant social media platform long before the advent of digital networks. It emerged as a glamorous, trend-setting publication that adorned African success with glossy imagery and bestowed it with a resonant global voice. In terms of its allure, the only comparable publication was the prestigious Hello! Magazine.
My journey led me to the Ovation headquarters, previously situated on Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, before its relocation to the more prominent Allen Avenue. It was in these dynamic offices that I encountered an extraordinary team of professionals— Paul Ukpabio, Segun Shobiye, Banke Ibrahim Alayaki, the distinguished Godwin Awe, Adesimbo Oluwafemi Ishola Adenuga, Ajayi Oyebo, Dragan Mikkiand countless others whose contributions have left an indelible mark on my memory. I had the distinct honour of being interviewed by the talented editor Michael Effiong James, which opened the door to a remarkable opportunity where I began to accompany seasoned photojournalists to high-profile events. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in their artistry and internalize the distinctive house style with great enthusiasm. I developed valuable friendships with various photojournalists under the guidance of Mike Effiong, as well as my photo editor, Ajayi Oyebo. Together, we at Ovation take immense pride in our work and honour the passionate leadership of Adekoya Adegbite —may you continue to elevate the craft, secure in the knowledge that your efforts are blessed by the Almighty.
I fondly recall the unwavering support I received during my master’s degree 🎓 program at the University of Hertfordshire, which was instrumental in my professional development.
As time gracefully unfolded, I serendipitously crossed paths with my publisher Aare Dele Momodu at an opulent wedding event I was documenting alongside the esteemed Mr. Ajayi Oyebo. He approached me with a warmth that evoked a paternal connection, igniting within me a belief in my potential that I hold dear to this day. Chief Dele Momodu’s profound faith in his team was evident, and when I decided to pursue further studies in the UK 🇬🇧, he generously provided me with a personalized recommendation letter, an act of kindness that filled my heart with gratitude.
On this occasion of your 65th birthday, I take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the immeasurable support you have extended to me. May God Almighty continue to shower you with blessings and abundance, and may your endeavours be crowned with extraordinary success. Under your visionary leadership, Ovation Media Group will undoubtedly reach greater heights on the global stage.
Significantly, Ovation International underwent a transformative evolution into the Ovation Media Group, marked by Aare Dele Momodu's remarkable initiatives, including the launch of Ovation TV International and @thebossnewspaper in 2015. This ambitious venture into television and digital media signals a bold rebranding, showcasing a far-reaching media empire. Chief Dele Momodu stands as a true trailblazer in our industry—selfless, tireless, and immensely dedicated. As you celebrate this milestone, I pray that the heavens will always remember you for the profound impact you have made in fostering my growth and the countless others you have inspired along the way.
