The chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria PLC, Publisher of TheTribune Titles, Ambassador (Dr) Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, has been appointed to chair the Odu’a Investment Foundation’s advisory council with six other members.
The group chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Bimbo Ashiru, who disclosed this at a press conference on Monday inLagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, said the advisory council, which will provide advisory services to the operations of the foundation, will be inaugurated at the launching of the foundation on Thursday, July 27 at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
Other members of the advisory council include Dr Olusegun Olugboyegun;
Chief Onikepo Akande; Dr Biodun Shobanjo; Dr Victoria Samson; Chief Wole
Onipekun and Mr Aderemi Makanjuola.
Ashiru said that the carefully appointed advisory council of Odu’a Investment Foundation are reputable personalities of South-West
origin with unblemished record of impeccable character and integrity, who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavours.
He added that the seven-man advisory council consists of professionals
and knowledge-driven personalities who have made their marks in different
fields.
Speaking on the mandate of the foundation, Ashiru posited that “the establishment of Odu’a Investment Foundation, a non-profit making organisation, is to promote the social development and welfare of the people of the six SouthWest states of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos.
“One of the primary aims of setting up the Odu’a Investment Foundation is to sustain the ideals of the founding fathers of OICL by ploughing back to the people of the South-West Nigeria and making life more meaningful and comfortable to them.”
He explained that the vision of the foundation is to create an enabling environment where every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, peaceful and productive life, while improving, expanding and promoting good healthcare, educational opportunities, youth development and
information technology in South-West Nigeria.
According to Ashiru, the foundation is “to promote, develop and empower the teeming youths of SouthWest Nigeria with focus on education and health (physical, mental, and social) while delivering significant long-term benefits in the areas of education and youth development in our stakeholders’ communities.”
Ashiru also disclosed that the foundation would create avenue for individuals, groups, philanthropists, corporate organisations, private and public institutions, multinationals, development partners and donor agencies to impact life meaningfully through their support, contributions
and partnership with the foundation in attaining its set mandates.
In his remark, the GroupManaging Director, OICL, Mr Adewale Raji, said members of the advisory council were selected from each of the southwestern states, based on their antecedents.
He added that a full-time programmes manager had also been employed to
work with the council.
Also speaking, Mrs Folusho Olaniyan, Independent Director, OICL, revealed plans to work with local and foreign partners so as to attract substantial
funding for the foundation.
