The
Government of Japan on Tuesday donated and commissioned a large scale project
of renovation and provision of training equipment to Nigeria Farmcraft Centre
For The Blind in Lagos.
Mr.
Takayuki Shinozawa, the Charge D’affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria,
led an entourage from Abuja to the centre in Igando, a Lagos surburb in
Alimosho local government area where the centre is located.
Mr Afegbua Muhammed Shaibu the Principal of the centre, received the august
visitors and conveyed the happy mood of the students and staff of the centre to
the visitors. “We are indeed humbled by your visit and safe arrival here.”
Mr.
Shinozawa while cutting the tape to commission the building housing an ICT Hub
and other things donated to the centre by the government of Japan, said that,
“this project is unique to our government because it borders on improving the
lives of the physically challenged. The project t is to support this centre for
the blind, which has been playing a significant role in providing vocational
training and employment support to Nigeria.
Mr.
Shinozawa and his team took an inspection tour of the centre and posed
severally with the locals for photographs. They crowded around him and he
gladly allowed them space for photographs with warm courtesy and greetings.
Despite his size and height, he felt at home with the people listening to them
one after the other. The Japanese embassy in Nigeria has indeed left an
indelible mark on the minds of not just the blind school but that of the locals
as well.
