ANOTHER WIN FROM SAP NIGERIA, DONATES ICT HUB TO STUDENTS

Following on its first donation, SAP Nigeria celebrates another win.Our vision is to help the world run better and improve people’s lives and we recently brought this to life when SAPNigeria donated a sixteen-seater ICT hub to the All Saints Anglican Primary School, Yaba, that will serve six other schools within the district.

       According to Investopedia, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that helps a company to be socially accountable – to itself, stakeholders and the public. SAP Nigeria has demonstrated this through volunteerism and philanthropy by encouraging their employees to give of themselves and their time without the expectation of financial gain. This is in line with our three key pillars of CSR at SAP – Building digital skills, helping non-profits and social enterprises run better, and connecting our employees with purpose.

       Speaking at the event was Mrs Linda Umanah, representing the Educational Secretary for Lagos mainland. She said the donation was “welcome in this age of smart technology.” She also expressed optimism that other companies will replicate this laudable initiative put forward by SAP Nigeria.

       Speaking about the execution of the project, SAP West Africa’s marketing manager, Mrs Juliet Omorodion, mentioned that partnering with Ayeci Africa for the execution was essential as “there is need to continue teaching digital skills to children in line with the governments objective to introduce digital skills within the educational system.” This is in line with the NGOs own objective of delivering the gift of literacy to pupils across the country. She further mentioned that activities will be ongoing at the facility through the teaching of coding and robotics by Coderina.

       Mrs Ifeoma Adibe-Chukwuka, founder Ayeci Africa, says their non-profit “facilitates educational intervention for indigent students especially as the next generation of jobs will be ICT driven.” “We will teach coding and robotics to children so that in as little as one hour, children can learn to code and even create their own games,” says Akiniyi Obaede, Coderina’s director of partnership and engagement.

       Prior to the event, SAP Nigeria’s employees volunteered to beautify the school environment through landscaping and signage. More to donating the facility, they rebuilt parts of the fence, provided a 5.6 KVA generator, sand-filled the play area for children upgrading it from a mere mud-filled space to one where children could play with their peers and they also secured the premises with a gate befitting a school in a quiet estate.

Appreciation also came from the head teacher, Mrs A.O Sonaike. Full of grateful smiles and prayers, she wished the management of SAP Nigeria and its partners well. She expressed optimism in the future of the project, stating that the students would benefit from practical computer classes.

       Also at the official launch was APC chairman for Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Prince Fagba Abiodun John. He expressed gratitude at the benevolence of SAP Nigeria, Ayeci Africa and Coderina.
