Determined to ensure students in public schools across the State gain prerequisite knowledge on Information Technology (IT), the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Rural Development And Public Utilities, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, has advised students to be serious in Information Technology (IT), stating that it is as important as water to the system.
Akpanusoh said this today during the official presentation of 3 units of HP computers and a printer donated by Chi Limited to Government Technical College, Ewet Offot, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.
Dr. Akpanusoh, while presenting the donated computers and a printer on behalf of the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, commended the management of Chi Limited for laying positive legacy in corporate social responsibility.
The lawmaker who was accompanied by the Chief Whip of the 7th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, maintained that the House of Assembly has also, as its responsibility to interface with relevant bodies and companies in order to attract dividends of democracy to the people of the sate.
Ekpenyong noted that the gesture of Chi Limited is to compliment on Government efforts for sustainable free and compulsory education.
The Commissioner of Education who was represented by the Ministry's Director of Projects, Mr. Abasiama Inyang has this to say.
"You can build houses and bridges, but without education, any development will be stagnated. This gesture will further lift the knowledge of the students" he said.
In his remarks, the Head of Administration, Chi Limited, Mr. Ebere Osunkwo observed that Chi Limited needs more visibility in the State hence, their commitment to compliment on the effort of the government to ensure education is given priority.
Osunkwo explained that his Company's desire and consciousness to fight against malnutrition in children as well as IT development prompted his company Chi Limited to provide IT learning materials for the school, adding that our children need to be IT compliant.
"We are not saying its enough, but its a symbolical demonstration of our promise to show that we care for our children" Osunkwo emphasized.
Recieving the items on behalf of Government Technical College, Ewet Offot, Mrs. Benedith Ekanem, commended the Ministry of Education for the nomination of Government Technical College.
She thanked the Committee Chairman and the entire leadership of the State Assembly for rising in support of IT development in the State, stressing that oftentimes items donated by individuals or Firms will get missing on the road due to lack of integrity on the part of those leading.
She also commended the Chief Executive of the State, Governor Udom Emmanuel, whom she said had some years back donated about 80-100 units of computers to the school.
She used the opportunity and appealed to the government to look into the perimeter fencing of the school.
