At last the June 12 dream has finally found an activation through the government of President Mohammadu Buhari.
The recent news is that, the Nigerian Senate, yesterday passed the Public Holiday (Amendment) Act 2019, that makes June 12 as Democracy Day in the place of May 29.
Buhari started with a giant step in that direction when on the 25th anniversary of June 12 saga, he officially declared June 12 as Democracy Day.
He officially recognised the late Basorun M.K.O. Abiola as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, and conferred on him, posthumously, the highest national honour in the land-the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, an honour reserved for presidents.
As it is now, the ‘June 12 Bill’, awaits President Buhari to sign it into law
