While noting that low level participation and poor investment of the private sector are also slowing down growth in the sectors, they observed that lack of infrastructural facilities and poor synergy between the two industries are not helping to salvage the industries and spur them for sustainable growth and development.
The participants then called for steady government policies on all developmental matters of the two industries, the participants advocate for stronger public private partnership to grow both sectors, noting that strong human and institutional capacity and use of modern technology to conduct tourism and transportation activities are key if Nigeria is to breakthrough and make headway in the growth and development of the two industries.
The Summit also urged relevant tourism Agencies to intensify efforts in the promotion and marketing of Nigerian tourism potentials for domestic and international tourists’ patronage as well as called on the federal government to liberalize the aviation industry as a way of opening up the sector for massive private investment.
The two-day Summit witnessed presentations of Sub Theme papers related to the main Theme which include; Effective Multi-Modal Transportation System and Infrastructure as Panacea for Tourism Development; Travails of Nigeria Airline Operators and Concession of Nigeria Airports; Development of critical infrastructure and the ease of doing business in Nigeria: The case of Tourism and Transportation industries; Inter-Modal Connectivity, Travelers’ Comfort, Safety and Security and Tourism in a Hyper-connection world - making Technology work for the Maritime, Tourism and Transportation Sectors, Aviation and Tourism Perspectives.
Others are Potentialities for Developing Regional Interconnectivity; The AFCTA and its borderless Africa: What Implications for Transportation in Nigeria; Efficiency, seamless intermodalism and cost effective Systems as a Panacea for airport patronage; Airline Profitability and passenger comfort in Africa, what way forward and Building Capacity for Global best practice in Tourism and Transportation Sectors.
Delegates at the Summit who appreciated the doggedness of the Institute for Tourism Professionals (ITP) and other collaborating stakeholders for the successful hosting of the second edition of the Summit and Expo which provided the platform to discuss and proffer solutions on issues bordering on Transport and Tourism development in Nigeria, called on all key players and critical stakeholders in the industries to facilitate and ensure the implementation of the recommendations put forth by participants for the socio-economic development of the country.
