Let’s be more united through peace and understanding -Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi urge Rotarians, Others…

Past District Governor of Rotary club of Nigeria District 9110, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi has called on all citizens of the world, to be more tolerant and be ready to unite through peace and understanding to enable easy co-existence and building of peace across borders.

Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi who is also an ex Nigerian Minister of Health, said this yesterday at the 2018 World Peace and Understanding Day, held by Rotary Club at Metropolitan Club House, Lagos.

According to the Rotary Past District Governor, “You cannot love and share peace if you do not have internal peace,” as such, he urged that individuals and nations should endeavour to promote peaceful relationships s across borders. He lauded the activities of Rotary Club in the area of mediation in conflicts across the world, tracing the different wars and conflicts across the world since World War 1 that took away lives of millions of people. World War 1 alone according to him, took about 85 million lives while world war 2 he added, is estimated to have consumed over 27 million lives.

“Rotary members now spread across the world with 3500 clubs. Rotary has refused to accept conflict as a way of life, so all over the world today, we are celebrating and thinking of how we can build peace across the world.”

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Femi Falana, a discussant at the forum, raised issues such as herdsmen and domestic conflicts that snowball into major crisis when not properly handled. Falana traced the issue of herdsmen crisis to the

period when ex President Goodluck Jonathan was in the saddle of governance. He said that the money meant for ranching was not used for the purpose, so the problem led to killings which today has not stopped. He also called on parents to learn to understand their children and not ignore their needs. That it is necessary to include children in the decision making mechanism of the home, so as to eliminate domestic conflicts.

Another discussant at the forum, AIG Adamu Ibrahim who represented the Inspector General of Police spoke on the need for equity and justice. The Rotarians used the occasion to honour Chief Femi Falana, the Inspector General of Police, Chief Adebutu Kessington, Chief Rotarian Naranbhai Patel and others who have been supportive of the club’s activities, over the past years.
