Council Boss, Others, give kudos to Ambode on new badagry road

Hon. Olusegun Onilude
Chief Wahab Ashade
The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Council, Hon. Olusegun Onilude, on Friday commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state and the people of Badagry, on the successful completion of Ajara-Agelasho-Poka-Erekiti road and bridge, which was undertaken by CGGC Global Projects Nigeria Limited led by Mr. Ma Bin. The Chairman, Hon. Onilude who spoke to journalists in his office, said that, the people of Badagry have been looking forward to the completion of the road, and they are indeed pleased with the governor that their long awaited expectation has been met.

"We know that the work has been in stages so far. First, we had the initial stage and then this second phase was approved and finally, it has been now been completed. We are happy and we are also pleased that we have lived to see this happening at our own time. As you can see during our site inspection, the two bridges have been done along with some stretch of the road. We thank the state government for completing that, and we also know that, the remaining uncompleted part of the road which extends into some of the communities, will be done by the state government. The other part of the work which has been classed as the third phase of the road project, would not involve too much technicalities like the other two bridges that has been completed. We are happy that progress is being made and we look forward to the Governor for the approval of work on the 3rd phase which will be the last."

Speaking further on the advantages of the new bridge and road to the people of Badagry, the local government chairman said that, "as you can see, the new road has too many advantages for we the people of Badagry. It links our communities in AjaraAgelasho, Itoun, Agbovipe, Erekiti, Iragon, Iragbo and Ikoga together. If I want to go Ikoga now, I can drive down there in minutes otherwise, I would have had to go on a merry-go-round journey through the expressway, which will takes hours. As it is now, we save time and fuel especially at this trying economic period. The new road also boosts our businesses as the farmers are now able to easily take their produce to the various markets in each of these communities. We are now well linked up. And though I am an administrator and not a technical engineer, I am sure that the Lagos state government made a right choice in choosing the firm CGGC Global Project, which has just completed this bridge and road. I say that because of the quality of the road that we can now see and which we Badagry people are proud of."

The Chairman's view was also shared by the head engineer of Badagry Local Government, Engineer Yusuf Jo who spoke on the quality of the road. According to him, "I belief the road is of high quality standard and the construction is a job well done. I can also attest to the materials used on site even before the completion of the road. Professionally, I can also add that it is a good job. Like my Executive Chairman rightly said, I believe that it will boost the economic activities within the various communities that are linked up by the road. Initially before the road was completed, it was a hazardous task accessing these various communities. We actually used to go through the expressway, which made the journey as long as it could ever be. But now we can access those communities within fifteen minutes by which time you would have reached your destination.

Also attesting to the opportunities offered by the new road, Chief Wahab Ashade the Baale of Erekiti in Badagry local government also commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his good construction works in the state. He said that prior to the new road, the wooden bridge that was there before, used to torture the people as sometimes, people fell into the river beneath. "The road used to torture us. I thank God for the governor who has done this. As a people we didn't have the wherewithal to do the road. This road joins us together and links up with Ogun state." The Baale however, urged the Lagos state governor, to look into the completion of the third phase of the road soon. "May God help the governor to do so soon. I also thank our honourable at the house of assembly Engr Setonji Davies. The road was divided into phase one, two and three. The particular bridge that CGGC Global Project has just completed is the 2nd phase. So we are appealing to the Lagos State Government, to please come to our aid and complete the phase 3, which will not be as much work."
