THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

By Zoe Oluwabusayo

Entrepreneurship looks easy, glamorous and fun filled from afar. However, the truth is that entrepreneurship is a very brain tasking, emotionally sapping and time consuming venture to engage in because as an entrepreneur, you are creating someone that no one has ever done before or reinventing a product or service to become better and more accessible to people.

Engaging in entrepreneurship within the context of the Nigerian society is taking the road less travelled because our society is a dependent society in which people prefer to take up employment with an already established company or organization rather than take an idea and build it into a product or service of value for the benefit of people in their various communities.

Nevertheless, let me say that I am not one of those who belief that paid employment is time wasting and building another person’s dreams at the detriment of one’s own. That is far from the truth, no one can work in an organization, helping to develop and grow it to become better, bigger and more successful without developing and growing himself and his career as well.

What paid employment does is that it develops the individual into a brand on the platform of the organization for as the individual in question contributes his quota, daily, to the progress of the organization, he is being developed, both personally and professionally as well. However, entrepreneurship is an entirely different ball-game, with a unique operating system, unlike paid employment. When you get into a paid job, you get into a system that is already functioning and progressing in which you have to add your quota to.
As an entrepreneur begins to birth an idea to life, he has to start from the scratch, putting plans and processes into place to fit the idea and make it a reality.

Entrepreneurship is a road less travelled but filled with endless possibilities for those who have a vision that is massive and want to birth an idea to life to give it a concrete form, an idea that adds values to people, provides employment opportunities and creates income. Everyone has the capacity to begin a venture and grow it into a conglomerate but only a handful are willing and tenacious to see that the idea becomes a reality. If you are willing and daring enough to desire to go the road less travelled, you are indeed called to become an entrepreneur.

The road less travelled is filled with fear, detours, misgivings and anxiety, however, the traveller ( the entrepreneur) must travel with audacity of faith, courage of conviction and a resilience second to none, for at the end of the road lies enormous and massive possibilities.
