Family and friends trooped into the Adeleke extensive compound at his country home at Ede in Osun state, quite early in the morning. But many did not meet the celebrant at home. With a train-like convoy,  the amiable Senator had gone out to  town, to hand over his birthday gift to the people of Osun state.

Dogara Vs el-Rufai: A-looter continua...

By Louis Odion, FNGE

Though elegant-sounding and seemingly mouthful, the word "subterfuge" actually connotes and denotes something far from noble - treachery.

It describes a bid to draw a red herring and, in the context of an argument, disrupt the opponent's stream of consciousness by smuggling a diversionary matter into the loop.

One cannot find a better word to classify the war of pay slips that erupted in the past few days between Nasir el-Rufai, the feisty Kaduna governor, and the otherwise dour-faced House of Reps Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

#BBNaija: Television as madness - Reuben Abati

What a relief! So, the Big Brother Naija reality television programme is finally over. It ended Sunday evening with 23-year old Efe Michael Ejemba, University of Jos graduate of Economics and singer winning the N25 million + SUV at stake, with 57.6% of the votes from over 24 million voters across Africa. Warri, where Efe’s family lives, erupted in excitement. At the Multichoice viewing centre in Ikeja, Lagos, where Katung Aduwak took charge so brilliantly, there was a similar eruption of incandescent joy. I was relieved because for about 70 days, the Big Brother Naija show was a big distraction, crass capitalism at its most cynical edge, a source of unmanageable madness in homes and on the streets. Now that it is over, it is time for some honest frank talk for the attention of all stakeholders involved.

Asiwaju @ 65: To fight is to live

By Louis Odion, FNGE

He who has not discovered what he/she can die for is not fit to live.
           - Martin Luther-King

The organizers probably only intended an entertainment for charity. But, beyond raising cash for the needy, the brainchild of the novelty duel would, at the end, find they have also helped fashion an enduring allegory for what often animates enlightened conversations in Nigeria today: the Tinubu role in the nation's riveting political narrative in the last two decades.
